a 318 would probably fit. If a 426 hemi would fit in a dart then anything is possible.

Some quick research (ala Google) has yielded that a LA small block (318, 360) with a full size truck oil pan will fit. Not sure if that includes Magnum fuel injected V8s. Apparently a TorquFlite 727 will fit with the V8s. I haven't found them, but some random internet citizen said there are small block Chevy conversion kits too.

You can always swap in a bigger motor. It is just a matter of how much work.
